From Guan xiao yun(2024.8.13)…

You must have heard of 十八站, this town is the centre of Oroqen culture and means “eighteenth post” in Chinese. When I was the the head of a township in the 1980s, every month, there will be a lot of scholar that come to visit our town to carry out researches. They were not only from China, but rather all over the world! Some of the research group included a language research group from Japan that made a dictionary on Oroqen language, a TV production group from South Korea, and a research group from Australia. I am very supportive of their research, but I am somehow a bit ashamed of myself as I thought “People from other country are doing research of us, but why aren’t we doing research of ourselves?” After this thought, I started to carry out lots of research myself and published several books about Oroqen literature, living situation, and our interaction with society. Working at government institution is already very busy and the pressure of publishing books add on to that. I would get up at 5 or 6 everyday, do some research and do some more in the evening until 10 or 11. This is really exhausting but I continue this lifestyle even till today. I am not a professional research scholar and beside contribution fee, I really don’t get anything. Yet, I still do it because of my passion for our community and the research method I use includes: interview, survey, observation, etc.
