My Inspiration
A childhood story
When I was a little kid, I always heard the story of the Oroqen People: the vast forest, the running deer, and the brave, united Oroqen People in the county where I lived. From their narratives and books such as “The Last Quarter of the Moon,” I am astonished by the richness of the Oroqen culture and am inspired to let more people know about their cultural heritage. However, due to intermarriage, political oppression, and many other reasons, the Oroqen culture and language are slowly dying. This is why I started this Black Dragon Legacy Project with another students in my school. It aimed to help protect the lost religion and inspire more people to realize the uniqueness of the Oroqen culture and take action.
My Visit to Oroqen Village
I visited the Oroqen People during 2022-2024. This was when I noticed that the situation of the cultural heritage there is worse than I ever imagined. Lots of local legacy has been deprived and formatted under the Chinese Communist regime and modernization. Thus, storing these memories and cultural heritage is an urgent need.
